UAB Synopsis, Vol. 27, No. 45, December 8, 2008

Dr. WarrinerUAB endocrinologist Amy H. Warriner, MD, has joined the Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic at The Kirklin Clinic®.

“Dr. Warriner is an important addition to our staff,” says Sarah L. Morgan, MD, professor of nutrition sciences and medicine and clinic director. “We have a multidisciplinary approach to osteoporosis treatment, and Dr. Warriner brings expertise to our model of care.”

The clinic’s patient load has grown exponentially and will continue to grow, says Dr. Morgan. “Dr. Warriner will shorten the time for patients to receive a clinic appointment and allow us to meet patient needs more efficiently.”

Referral Center
UAB’s Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic is one of the region’s leading osteoporosis referral centers. Part of the UAB Center for Metabolic Bone Disease, the clinic also serves as a focal point for clinical and basic science bone-related research and education.

Patients visiting the center meet with a patient educator, physical therapist, densitometrist, and one of UAB’s osteoporosis specialists, including Jeffrey R. Curtis, MD, Kenneth G. Saag, MD, and Drs. Morgan and Warriner.

“Osteoporosis treatment is uniquely spread across multiple subspecialties,” Dr. Warriner says. “Endocrinology is an essential component of care. I worked with Drs. Curtis, Morgan, and Saag as a fellow, and I am looking forward to being a part of their team.”

Dr. Warriner and Dr. Curtis are collaborating on a pilot project to improve the quality of osteoporosis care through patient storytelling. The study will focus on improving bone mineral density evaluation in postmenopausal women.

Dr. Warriner received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she also completed her internship and residency. She completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at UAB and joined the faculty as assistant professor of medicine in 2007.
