Clinical

The Diabetes and Endocrine Clinic is located on the 4th floor of the Kirklin Clinic. We accept patients in referral from primary care providers, other specialists, and surgeons. Our clinic is open from 8am-5pm Monday thru Friday. We see patients with Diabetes Mellitus, thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, calcium disorders, and pituitary disorders. In evaluating patients we consult with other specialists in radiology, pathology, laboratory medicine, surgery and other medical specialities. Patients can expect excellent thorough evaluations of their medical problem with appropriate feedback and recommendations to their primary doctor. Our clinic is staffed by a clinic coordinator, a team leader, four nurses, and a host of medical support staff to assist in your visit to our clinic.

In addition, we also have a new Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Diabetes Clinic (MCDC) located on the 1st floor of the Kilklin Clinic where we see patients with all types of Diabetes as a team. This is a unique clinic, with a one-stop-shop approach, for patients interested on an intensive and comprehensive evaluation of their diabetes on a yearly basis.  Patients are invited to spend a full day with us. During this day – sort of a Diabetes Retreat Day – our patients take several group classes given by our Registered Dietitians and Certified Diabetes Educators aimed at improving their knowledge in nutrition and diabetes, carbohydrate counting, sick day rules, and other important topics for patients with diabetes. They also eat breakfast & lunch together, in an eat & learn environment, where they apply what they learn during the group classes, giving them a chance to further interact and ask specific questions. In addition, patients undergo individual, one-on-one, evaluation and counseling sessions with each of the MCDC team members, including our nutritionists & diabetes educators, our adult and pediatric endocrinologist, orthopaedic surgeon/ podiatrist, and an ophthalmologist.  When necessary, one of our Social Workers is also available to meet with our patients during the same day.

The MCDC is organized in several sub-specialty clinics to facilitate group learning, patient care and research. The following sub-specialty diabetes clinics are available:

  • Type 2 Diabetes Clinic
  • Type 1 Diabetes Clinic
  • Insulin Pump Clinic
  • Adolescent Transition Clinic (for those young adults transitioning their care from our pediatric to adult diabetes clinics)
  • Other Types of Diabetes* (CFRD, MODY, Monogenic Diabetes, Islet Cell Transplants, Post-Transplant Diabetes, etc) (*note: some of these clinics are currently in development)
