Dr. Richard Rosenthal has been a member of the Department of Medicine at UAB since 1997. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and earned his medical degree from UAB in 1992. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in 1995. Then he returned to UAB and completed a Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1997.

Dr. Rosenthal is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and clinic director at The Kirklin Clinic. He serves on the Clinical Practice Committee for the Department of Medicine and The Kirklin Clinic. He is the chairman of the Performance Improvement Patient Safety Committee (PIPS).

Dr. Rosenthal is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He participates in the Minority Medical Education Program each year. He serves on the Admissions Interview Committee for the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He is a board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). He is a member of the Endocrine Society and the National Lipid Association. He is on the advisory board for Generations Women’s Health Publication and the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program.

Biography:
Richard S. Rosenthal, Associate Professor of Medicine, received his B.A. in 1988 at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was on the Dean’s list and College Scholar. He earned his M.D. in 1992 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received the Sarah F. Davis Award for Best All-Around Male Student. He completed his residency at Carolinas Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Rosenthal began his fellowship in 1995 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1997, he became an instructor in the Department of Medicine and he was appointed as The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Clinic Director, his present position. He is a board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). He is committee member for the Clinical Practice Committee (CPC) for the Kirklin Clinic and the Department of Medicine, and a committee member for the Performance Improvement Patient Safety Committee (PIPS). He participates in the UASOM Minority Medical Program.
